Acclimatization is mandatory, not optional. When you fly from Bangalore (920m) to Leh (3,500m), your body needs at least 24–48 hours to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels. GoPravasa's Day 1 itinerary is strictly rest-only. Attempting Khardung La or other high passes before Day 3 significantly increases the risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS), which can escalate to life-threatening HAPE or HACE. We do not compromise on this for any traveler, regardless of fitness level.
Yes. Hanle and Umling La fall within restricted zones requiring Inner Line Permits (ILP) from the LAHDC. Additionally, Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Tso Moriri also require protected area permits. GoPravasa processes all permits on your behalf — you only need to share your Aadhaar card details at the time of booking.
Only postpaid SIM cards (Airtel or Jio postpaid) work in Ladakh. Prepaid SIMs from outside the region do not function. UPI works in Leh city and most restaurants and shops but fails entirely in remote areas like Nubra Valley, Pangong, and Hanle due to no internet connectivity. GoPravasa strongly recommends carrying ₹8,000–₹12,000 in cash before leaving Leh city for any excursion.
May to September is the primary travel window. June to August offers stable weather with all passes open. September is GoPravasa's top recommendation — fewer tourists, clear skies, open roads, and 10–15% lower package prices versus peak season. October to April is only for winter adventurers doing the Chadar Trek on the frozen Zanskar River.
Leh city has ATMs from SBI, J&K Bank, and HDFC—but they frequently run out of cash during peak season. Beyond Leh, there are no ATMs in Nubra, Pangong, Hanle, or Tso Moriri. GoPravasa advises withdrawing ₹10,000–₹15,000 in Leh before any excursion. UPI can supplement in Leh but is unreliable on the road.
The most important items: thermal innerwear, a windproof jacket, SPF 50+ sunscreen (high-altitude UV is extreme), polarized sunglasses, lip balm, personal medications, Diamox tablets (consult your doctor), and a postpaid SIM card. Clothing must allow layering—temperatures swing from -5°C at night to 25°C midday at certain altitudes. See GoPravasa's detailed packing list above.
